Today is the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month and the Spanish 3 students will be sharing with you about some famous Spanish-speaking singers. Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-American singer, actress, and businesswoman. Estefan is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, and has been named one of the Top 100 greatest artists of all time. There is a Broadway musical about her life that tells how she fled from Cuba in 1960 after her father became a political prisoner. She started with the group Miami Sound Machine but soon branched out to solo albums in English and Spanish. In 1990 her tour bus had a horrible accident. The doctors did not know if Gloria would live. When she did they said she would never sing or dance again. There is a documentary about how she persevered and came back stronger than ever. Some of her most popular songs are "Get On Your Feet" and “Conga”.
