Green Local Schools Board of Education Places $500,000 Emergency Renewal Levy on November Ballot
The Green Local Schools Board of Education has placed a renewal of the $500,000 emergency levy on the November ballot. If approved, the levy would generate approximately $74 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value, for a nine-year period beginning in 2026, with the first payments due in calendar year 2027.
The state legislature recently voted to eliminate emergency levies effective January 1, 2026. Therefore, the November election represents the district’s last opportunity to pass this type of levy. If the levy does not pass, any future voted levies will be excluded from the rollback and homestead exemptions.
While the district is fortunate to be in a financially stable position, placing this levy on the ballot is a precautionary step due to ongoing discussions at the state level regarding potential tax reform in Ohio, which could lead to significant reductions in funding.
The district remains dedicated to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. If revenue exceeds the district’s 150-day cash reserve policy, the Board has committed to reduce tax collections accordingly, ensuring taxpayers are not contributing more than necessary.
